Our trip to California – Part ii
“In victory, you deserve Champagne. In defeat you need it.”
― Napoleon Bonaparte
We highly recommend staying just north of Napa in Yountville, a quiet and picturesque town. We stayed at the Hotel Yountville, a beautiful little resort with gorgeous rooms and great service.
For breakfast each morning we drove right down the road from our hotel to Bouchon Bakery. A cozy bakery filled with the smell of freshly brewed coffee and baking pastries. It was almost as if each morning we were transported to a cafe in Paris just for breakfast.
On our first day, we made our second stop at Mumm Napa. Their flight of sparkling rosé changed my viewpoint! Now, I always keep a bottle of sparkling rosé chilled for special occasions.
A little farther down the road we booked a Wine tasting, an Olive oil tasting and a tour of the Olive oil production at Round Pond Estate . This was a highlight of our day! The beautiful grounds were relaxing to roam about, and the series of Tastings was an experience. The variety of flavors within just these few things, Wine, Olive oil, and Vinegar are incredible. We had a beautiful vantage point to ponder these joys of life at the end of the day, sitting on the rooftop overlooking the vineyards and enjoying some quiet conversation as the sun set.
If you visit the Napa Valley area, I think it is a must to visit Chateau Montelena, noteworthy in California history for wine, and considered by some to be “where it all began”.
